RATES: Our rates are based on the actual service provided, with terms and policies as follows:
RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS: Residential (private party): First visit to new, local customers (Tri-Cities, Benton City, and Prosser) is free! This is to interview the customer and evaluate the problem only. If follow-up service is required it will be done at the normal residential rates. Residential local rate is $45.00 per hour.
Residential (private party) greater than 25 miles from our office: Customers located farther than 25 miles from our office will be charged an additional $1 per mile for service visits that exceed the 50-mile round trip limit. The same residential rate of $45.00 per hour will apply to actual service work only.
HOME OFFICE / SMALL BUSINESS CUSTOMERS: Businesses normally require a higher level of expertise and service knowledge; therefore their rate is higher. Terms are the same as residential customers: First visit for new client evaluation is free; service performed as a result of the evaluation is charged out at the rate of $60.00 per hour. Mileage, trip charge and limitations are the same as residential customers above.
SHOP REPAIR: Should it become necessary to repair a computer in the shop, work is billed on a basis of time & materials at the standard shop rate of $45.00 per hour. Typical repairs are: replacement of power supply, motherboard, or in-depth software troubleshooting that is impractical to perform at a client's office or home.

Materials and Electronic Hardware: Occasionally our clients suffer a hardware failure. Since most components are locally available at competitive prices, Peterson Computers maintains a select inventory only (items that cannot be procured locally, or volume discount items to keep our customers from getting ripped-off). If the hardware is a critical component that must be replaced immediately, Peterson Computers will procure locally during the service call and install the new component. If the hardware is non-essential, Peterson Computers will advise the customer on procurement, or will at the customer's option procure the hardware on their behalf. In this case the customer will be provided with the original invoice and a 15% handling fee will be added.
We have found the best way to handle procurement of new or replacement computers and printers is to assist our clients with identifying and selecting the correct equipment, and then they place the order for the equipment themselves and notify us when the equipment arrives. This avoids the handling fee that we would need to charge, and allows easier handling of warrantee and returns, which we also assist our customers with.
Another way we save our customers money is that we are experts in diagnosing and repairing older hardware, and we've found that many times we can repair rather than replace. This is unusual in the "throw-away" culture of computer support!
